The Western Maryland 4-H Education Center is owned and operated by the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension. Located in the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of Garrett County, the center offers seasonal activities and accommodations for groups of all kinds. Readily accessible to the metropolitan areas of Washington, Baltimore and Pittsburgh, the centers offers a wooded sitting in which to enjoy the natural beauty and cool mountain air of Maryland's westernmost county. The center's extensive recreational facilities include activities for all ages and interests. The camp's picturesque 25-acre lake gives swimmers, canoeists, and fishermen the chance to make use of the facilities as well. Two campfire circles round out the camp's many opportunities for fun and education.

The camp is open to your group (minimum 30 persons) and can accommodate up to 158 people to spend the day, a weekend or a week on it's spacious grounds of 1,100 acres. The camp is only open April thru October due to the cabins not having a heating system.  Indoor and outdoor facilities include:

  • Twelve comfortable cabins sleeping 12 each
  • Four staff cabins sleeping 3-4 each
  • Infirmary
  • 2 large shower houses with bathrooms
  • Spacious lodge hall with large fireplace                                    
  • Two open-air pavilions
  • Nature Center Building
  • Dining hall with tables and kitchen facilities for entire camp
  • Baseball field, basketball court, volleyball court
  • Archery and rifle range
  • Scenic 25-acre lake
  • Canoeing and swimming
  • Two large outdoor campfire circles
  • Low ropes challenge and team building course
  • Fresh water marsh, bog, and swamp
  • Nature trails
