4-H enjoys a rich history in Frederick County. From The Great Frederick Fair to School Enrichment programs, 4-H is an integral part of Frederick County.
Frederick County 4-H is one of the largest programs in Maryland with more than 1000 youth members and over 400 adult volunteers who dedicate many hours to the enrichment of Frederick County's youth.
4-H, the youth development branch of Maryland Cooperative Extension, is open to all youth between 8-18 years old. 4-H teaches youth valuable life skills through an informal, hands-on educational approach.
Youth participate in workshops, field trips, camps, fairs, and club meetings to gain knowledge in their specific area of interest. Public speaking, personal responsibility, and other valuable life skills are emphasized in all project areas.
4-H'ers can win trips, scholarships, and more through 4-H. Frederick County 4-H offers opportunities through many different programs such as Inter-state Exchange Trips, 4-H Camp, Therapeutic Riding, Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program, and many more specialized and general interest clubs. These programs broaden the experiences of youth and produce responsible, productive citizens.
4-H would not be possible without the help of hundreds of volunteers and generous donors. Club leaders, contest coordinators, activity leaders, and project leaders all make 4-H possible. People that want to make a difference, share their knowledge, and love working with children make the best teachers for our children.
If you are interested in becoming a 4-H member or would like to become a 4-H volunteer, contact the Frederick County 4-H Department at MCE, Frederick County Office, 330 Montevue Lane, Frederick, MD 21702; PHONE 301-600-1589; TTY 301-600-1672; FAX 301-600-1588, or e-mail the 4-H Assistant -- schiazzi@umd.edu
