The Food Stamp Nutrition Education (FSNE) Program is a program of the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension. FSNE provides nutrition education programs to food stamp participants and/or food stamp eligible individuals and households. The program encourages collaborative nutrition education programming with school districts, community organizations and state agencies.
University of Maryland Extension nutrition educators, trained by the University of Maryland, collaborate with community organizations to deliver nutrition education to low income youth and adults.
FSNE programs are jointly planned by Extension educators and staff from organizations such as yours who work together to ensure the program meets participants needs. Benefits of the collaboration include the joining of resources and strengthening of programs.
FSNE can benefit your organization by providing:
Extension professionals to collaborate with you on planning innovative programs designed to meet the goals of your organization. Nutrition educators deliver programs to clients or students and train your staff. The partnership also provides you with access to excellent educational materials provided to your organization at no cost.

As part of the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension, we provide health and nutrition- related information, resources and classes at low or no cost in Charles County. Programs available:
We need you to become a Volunteer Financial Counselor. Maryland Cooperative Extension needs volunteers to provide free, confidential counseling to families and individuals who want to manage their money more wisely and reduce their debt.
Qualifications required to become a Volunteer Financial Counselor:
- Interest in helping others
- To keep client information confidential
- To use and follow the financial counseling practices of Maryland Cooperative Extension
- To work under the supervision of an Extension Educator
- To communicate effectively with others
- To know limitations and when to refer questions to extension faculty
- Attend and participate in In-service training's and planning meetings.
Training
What.....20 plus hours of classroom, self-study and demonstrated counseling skills.
When.....Training is offered twice a year. Volunteers must attend all classes and pay a registration fee, which will cover the Volunteer Manual, other resources and refreshments
