Nutrient Management Coverage in
Allegany County
Rich Spoonire recently began working as the University of Maryland Extension (UME) Nutrient Management Advisor two days a week in Allegany County. In this position, Spoonire will provide assistance to agricultural producers in developing their nutrient management plans for compliance with state regulations. He continues to work as an advisor in Washington County, where he has served in this role for 21 years. Spoonire will be available on Mondays and Fridays by calling 301-724-3320. You may also e-mail him at rspoonir@umd.edu or visit the UME Office at One Commerce Drive in Cumberland.
The Nutrient Management office offers the convenience of local assistance with your management plans. We can supply producers with soil and manure sample bags/jars and supply names and addresses of participating laboratories for analysis. This data, along with other operation information, obtained by the advisor will assist in writing the grower a balanced nutrient management plan complete with fertilizer and lime recommendations. This plan will meet the requirements of the Water Quality Improvement Act.
Soil samples may also be taken from the family garden or lawn.
For more information call 301-724-3320. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
