  • Tomato Tasting!  Come taste many types of tomatoes, bring your garden's tomatoes, tomato seeds, and recipes for our tomato tasting/seed/recipe exchange.
  • Tomato cooking, seed saving, and carving demonstrations.
  • Attend classes - Stop Animals from Eating your Garden, How to Prevent Insect and Disease in the Vegetable Garden, Low Tunnel Construction for Fall/Winter Vegetable Gardening, and Food Preservation* (registration required for the food preservation class).
  • Experts will answer edible gardening questions. 
  • View our garden and attend the demonstrations in the garden.

Summer Open House Event Schedule


Everything Tomatoes!

Events held at Montgomery County Extension Offices, 18410 Muncaster Road, Derwood, MD.

Grow it, Eat It, Preserve It workshops demonstrate recommended water bath and pressure canning methods focusing on food safety, proper canning equipment and tested recipes. Cost is $35 and includes handouts, fruit/vegetables, lids and jars, and use of canning equipment. Also, included in your registration fee is a food preservation cookbook with updated tested recipes and in-depth information for both the new and experienced food preserver, including information on water bath and pressure canning, pickling, jams and jellies, freezing and drying.
