We need volunteers to help prepare and conduct any or all of the following classes at various schools in Talbot County. A typical program would be as follows, which will be conducted at the Moton Elementary School in Easton. The specific topics and dates will differ at other schools.
Mar. 21 - Introduction with the following activities: “Hamburger Plant”, “Benefits Mobile”, “The Choo Choo Song” and building a paper potMar. 28 – Plants Continued: “Plant Parts Rap”, “Plant Parts We Eat”, Plant a seed in the paper pot, “P.L.A.N.T. needs”, and make “Plant People”
April 4 – Soils: “Shake, Rattle, and Roll”, Discuss the stages of compost, Compost video, and Compost Critters
April 11 – Environmental Horticulture
April 18 – Ecology
April 25 – Insects and Diseases
May 2 – Insects and Diseases continued
May 9 – Fruits and Nuts
May 16 – Veggies and Herbs
May 23 – Water Cycle, How we can use the lessons learned from this class to be better stewards of the environment, and the top 3 topics not covered previously.
We still need volunteers to help prepare the kits for these classes and plan curriculum, as well as volunteers to help in the classes. The classes will be held 3:45-5:00 pm on Wednesdays at Moton Elementary School, in the art room.
We will meet at the Extension Office at 9:30 on March 7th to do an inventory of supplies, make copies of activity sheets, and begin prep for classes. If more time is needed, we will plan to meet on March 13th to build class kits for the first 2 classes.
