New Master Gardener trainees completed classes held during February. A final MG gathering was held where new volunteers met with other Master Gardeners and enjoyed a potluck lunch. Training topics among others included: basic horticulture; Chesapeake Bay pollution; lawn care; pond management; composting; native plants; landscaping; and hardscape. New graduating Master Gardeners will now begin completing additional volunteer Master Gardener training and volunteer hours requirements.
The 2006 Landscape Workshop was a well-attended event with 108 people at the Southern Maryland College. The program covered topics such as plant propagation, landscape design and Bay Wise watering practices. Examples of landscape shrubs and trees were offered for use in home landscapes.
Charles Master Gardeners provided horticultural information to communities at various sites.
An Information Table was held by Charles County Master Gardeners at P.D. Brown Library for two consecutive Saturday mornings in April. Over two hundred Library patrons received UMD factsheets of their choice and were provided with environmentally sound horticultural answers to their questions.
