Part of the fun of growing your own vegetables is
choosing from the thousands of cultivated varieties available from seed companies, seed saver exchanges, and fellow gardeners. Do the choices seem overwhelming? Look over the vegetable profiles on the left for basic crop information and then read HG 70 Recommended Vegetable Culitvars for Maryland Home Gardens for suggestions. The cultivars listed in HG 70 were selected by Maryland Master Gardeners through a written survey. They have performed well over a wide range of soil and weather conditions in different locations around the state.
Do you need help figuring out when to plant your vegetables? Check out GE 007 Vegetable Planting Calendar for Central Maryland and GE 008 Spring Planting Guide for Vegetables: A Dynamic Chart for Maryland Gardens. (Note: GE 008 requires Microsoft Excel to view.)
