Come visit the Montgomery County Agricultural History Farm Park and learn about gardening at the University of Maryland Grow It Eat It Spring Event!

This Merit Badge program will have many talks, demonstrations, and activities to provide information for the Gardening Merit Badge. Boy Scouts should check-in by 8:20 a.m.

The event will have a special tracks and events for Boy Scouts working on their Gardening Merit Badges with either compost, water gardening, or hydroponic options. Scouts will be able to participate in scout only activites as well as all other activities that the event offers to the general public.

Scouts will build a self-watering container in which they will plant several items, and will be provided additional seeds to be planted at home after the program. Hydroponic option scouts will also build a hydroponic system at the event.

Please pick ticket types based on the merit badge and options you are interested in.


Gardening Merit Badge

  • Gardening Merit Badge with the composting option
  • Gardening Merit Badge with the hydroponic option
  • Gardening Merit Badge with the water garden option


Ticket/Event Information:

  • Scout tickets come with one free chaperone tickets. All underage participants must have a chaperone with them at all times
  • If you are coming as a group and would like to stay together, please purchase your tickets in one order with the same badge option
  • Please dress for the weather. Some parts of the event will be outside
  • A merit badge counselor will be on site but many parts of these badges need to be worked on over the growing season
  • Please bring a lunch - we will also have snacks for sale


Additional optional class:

  • Plant Propagation: will give hands on knowledge of propagation by seeds, roots, cuttings, and tubers (will take several plants home). Please note this class will work with the compost or water gardening option schedules. It will not be available with the hydroponic option schedule.
