Herb Reed is the PI. Teach composting, proper use of fertilizers and pesticides in home landscapes and designing and maintaining “Chesapeake Bay-friendly” home landscapes. Trained 140 Master Gardener interns from 2002 to 2008 to assist in this effort. Follow-up includes advising and supervising Master Gardener volunteers and training new volunteers. As of 2998 there are 44 certified Master Gardeners in Calvert County and 12 active interns. These volunteers contribute 2,327 hours in service to Calvert County in 2008, a value to Calvert County of $46,633. Taught classes on Backyard Composting and Healthy Soils to 37 participants in 2008.
