Phosphorus Site Index Training Program

Dr. Patricia Steinhilber is the PI. The Phosphorus Site Index (PSI) is a required component of a nutrient management plan on fields that have an excessive phosphorus soil-test level and where manure or phosphorus fertilizer application is anticipated. The PSI is a risk assessment that determines the possible loss of phosphorus to surface waters as a result of nutrient applications.

Through participating in the Phosphorus Site Index field training program, certified nutrient management consultants, certified farmers, and Extension nutrient management Advisors become proficient at conducting the Phosphorus Site Index. Attendees use the PSI risk assessment in nutrient management plans to manage nutrients in a manner that leads to the reduction of negative environmental impacts from agricultural land.
