Grow It, Eat It

What is Grow It Eat It?

The Grow It Eat It (GIEI) Program was launched in 2009 to teach Marylanders how to grow food in home, community, and school gardens. Over the past eight years, Master Gardeners (MGs) have taught hundreds of classes, developed demonstration gardens, and helped thousands of individuals and groups start their own food gardens.

The Home and Garden Information Center (HGIC) supports GIEI by creating web content and videos, managing social media platforms, and answering questions through our Ask an Expert service.

GIEI’s popularity and success resulted in its designation in 2017 as a “UME Signature Program.” UME is proud of the outstanding outreach education work performed by MGs in many areas:  Ask a MG Plant Clinics, Bay-Wise Landscaping program, Grow It Eat It, Therapeutic Horticulture, Native Plants, Pollinators, Composting, Invasive Species, Youth Gardening, etc. You can learn more about MG classes, events, and programs by visiting the UME Master Gardener website.

Our commitment to food garden education is stronger than ever!

UME Master Gardeners across the state will be teaching GIEI classes and workshops, and holding Ask a MG Plant Clinics, in 2018 and beyond. And HGIC will continue to add vegetable and fruit web content and answer food gardening questions through the Ask an Expert service.
