Stephan Tubene is currently the Small Farm Institute Coordinator and Farm Management Specialist for Southern Maryland at the University of Maryland. In addition, he is an Adjunct Professor of Economics at the University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business. Tubene is creative, highly motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic professional with extensive experience in teaching and research. He is visionary able to identify new ideas and develop them from conception to completion. He has excellent mathematical, analytical and problem solving skills complemented by strong econometric and quantitative methods. He is fluent in English, French, and several African languages. His research interests include: Farm Management, Agricultural Marketing, and International Agricultural Development.

Selected Teaching and Extension Responsibilities

Tubene currently teaches undergraduate and graduate courses (traditional classroom and Web-based courses) including Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, and Managerial Economics at the University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business.

His current extension responsibilities at the University of Maryland include developing effective farm management and marketing programs for Southern Maryland small business audiences; promoting and coordinating the activities of the Small Farm Institute; promoting the adoption of regional agricultural cooperatives and alternative marketing strategies, and collaborating with other agencies serving the farming community.

Tubene has designed and implemented Community Development outreach and educational programs at Kansas State University. He conducted a feasibility analysis for fruit and vegetable producers in Southwest Mississippi. The study was intended to provide marketing strategies to small farm operators and help them tape into new marketing niches. Tubene has also managed and presided over a private institution (ISSA/Kinshasa) consisting of more than 300 students, and 20 faculty and staff. In this capacity, he developed and taught several courses including Chemistry, Plant Pathology, and General Agriculture.
