Family financial management is critical to achievefinancial security for all consumers and families in Maryland.
Actions:MCE provides research-based financial management educationalprograms to diverse audiences including youths, women, minorities,immigrants, self-employed individuals, farm families, first timehome buyers, employees, military, childcare providers, smallbusiness owners, senior citizens, government agencies and humanservice providers, working poor and other limited resourceindividuals. Delivery methods include one-on-one counseling, factsheets, newsletters, conferences, workshops, Internet programs, andmore.
Impacts:MCE increased the number of Maryland consumers who
- enhanced their financial literacy and money management skills,
- managed credit better and reduced debts,
- participated in savings plans and increasedsavings/investments,
- plan for a secure retirement and later life issues (e.g.,estate planning, long-term care).
MCE enhanced the capacity of local educators, financialcounselors, and human service providers to deliver personal financeeducation programs to help their clients.
