Maryland 4-H Congress

Maryland 4-H Congress

June 20-24, 2017

University of Maryland

Maryland 4-H Congress is the state's premier teen leadership opportunity.  Held on the University of Maryland, "M4HC" gives 4-Hers ages 13-18 the opportunity to explore career opportunities in a variety of areas and to experience life on a college campus.  Youth attending Maryland 4-H Congress live in campus residence halls and eat in dining halls, enjoy campus recreational activities, and attend workshops and tours in campus classrooms, labs, and facilities.  Participants have the chance to meet and make friends with fellow 4-Hers from across the state, discover career opportunities, perform community service, and learn skills that help them prepare for college and the workforce.

4-Hers attending Maryland 4-H Congress choose a “career track” consisting of workshops, tours, and activities hosted/supported by one or more of the University of Maryland’s colleges or schools.  Tracks for 2017 are:

  • Agriculture & Animal Science
  • Agronomy & Plant Science
  • Creative & Fine Arts
  • Communications & Journalism
  • Engineering
  • Healthy Living
  • Law & Policy

In addition to the career tracks, all Congress Delegates will learn about the college admissions process and the UMD campus and will participate in a group service project to benefit the community or a partner organization.  Delegates will also enjoy a Welcome Barbecue hosted by campus student groups, Olympic-style Clover Games, student recreation facilities, a Celebration Dinner and Delegate talent show, and a bus trip to a Baltimore Orioles baseball game!

4-Hers attending Maryland 4-H Congress can apply to be part of the Youth Media Team (YMT).  The YMT will be advised by communications professionals as they document the entire 2017 Maryland 4-H Congress in a daily newspaper, photos and videos, and production of a Maryland 4-H Congress slideshow that will be shown at the closing ceremony.   4-Hers interested in working on the YMT can apply when registering to attend Maryland 4-H Congress.  An audition piece is required.

Maryland 4-H Congress will also feature a Talent Show as part of the final evening’s celebration banquet.  Maryland 4-Hers who would like to perform in the talent show may apply when registering to attend Maryland 4-H Congress.  An audition video is required.
